“In
the daytime the stars will shine” (video/DVD)
Reviewer: CosmicFighter

This is a very
professional and thought provoking film.
After the tragic
death of Rolans father (Marc Bolan) in 1977, when Rolan was only
two years old, his mother (Gloria Jones) took him to America.
During the film both Gloria and her brother Richard Jones are interviewed,
they give their reasons for why it was best for Rolan to grow up
in America. Rolan tells of his youth and why he decided to come
over to the U.K. when he did in 1997. |
The
filmmakers follow Rolan from L.A. to London; they show the immediate
press and media coverage Rolan has to contend with from the moment
he steps off the plane. Rolan came to London in September ’97
when he was asked to unveil a memorial stone given in the memory
of his dad by the BPRS (British Performing Rights Society). He explains
why he felt this was the best time for him to come over.
You witness
the elation, the sadness and the emotional turmoil as Rolan comes
to terms with learning about his dad; he meets his dad’s family
and many of his dads
fans. You also get rare footage of Rolan performing with his first
band “The Brothers Bounce”. Rolan is interviewed throughout
the film and has some interesting comments.
Rolan is filmed constantly from 1997 to 2001 there are many insights
into all that is Bolan.
This is a very
moving biographical film and is a must have video/DVD for all Bolan
fans.
The DVD version
has the added bonus of a superb concert from the “Nighttown
club” in Rotterdam; Rolan performs with the band “Mercy
Mercy”. This is not tacky footage just to appease DVD buyers;
it has great sound and picture quality.
